Building Career Practitioner Capacity through Collaboration and the ‘Train the Trainer’ Approach: A Case Study

Professional development for career practitioners is essential—whether it happens on the job, through formal education, or by learning from peers in the field. This presentation showcases how Progressive Intercultural Community Services (PICS) and Vancouver Community College (VCC) collaborated on the Intercultural Skills for Success project, funded by ESDC, to empower career practitioners through a Train the Trainer approach embedded in experiential learning.

By leveraging each organization’s strengths, the project enhanced capacity within the career development field, bridging academic insights with community service practices. This case study reveals the challenges, successes, and sustainable impacts of this collaborative model, emphasizing how it benefits not only practitioners but also their clients and the broader learning culture of community organizations.
