Abstract: The Gig Economy is more than a new trend, it is defining the future of what we understand as “career”, the economy model and the society itself. Are we equipped as career & life coaches to help our clients (and ourselves) to navigate the pros and cons of this new model? How would the Gig economy affect our own profession? How can we provide support and understand this trend better? The Gig Economy relates closely to the Chaos Theory of Careers, in which the old model of Skills, Abilities, Knowledge and Experience no longer define success or path. Join me in this interactive presentation where we will share alternative resources, ideas, and projects.

Abstract: Give “weakness” a chance. An over emphasis on a strength-based career approach need not imply that only “strengths” matter and that “weakness” is equated with failure and cannot lead to success. Such a perspective may cause some to give up prematurely. What is a more holistic perspective of “weakness”? Are not “strengths” and “weaknesses” relative to different values and perspectives? If a “strength” can become a “weakness”, why can’t a “weakness” become a strength”?

Abstract: These days, it seems that every time you seek information on the workplace, you discover yet another article about intergenerational conflict and frankly, the author confesses, the fault appears to lie with the Millennials. What’s not being talked about is that Millennials are at a time in their lives of immense brain development and plasticity. They are entering the workforce at time when employers could benefit greatly by training and treating them the right way. While technology has shaped Millennials in such a way that they form a different tribe; technology has also shown neuroscientists that the brains of Millennials, as seen on fMRI and MRI scanners, have powerful contributions to make if allowed. With added knowledge from neuroscience, career practitioners can be excellent guides for Millennials and for those who are smart enough to hire them.
