Program Overview
YWCA Metro Vancouver’s Job Futures 55+ is a program funded through the Ministry of
Advanced Education and Skills Training, to provide employment services for jobseekers 55 years
and over. The structured program has a comprehensive workshop format addressing career
planning, job search, employability, health and wellness topics; essential skills; job
development; opportunities for work experience, employer engagement; sustainable
employment placement and job coaching. The program has a three-person team delivering this
performance-based employment program, and operates out of Vancouver and North Vancouver
locations serving Metro Vancouver (currently the program is offered online via Zoom video-
conferencing).

Career Advisor/Employer Engagement Specialist Core Duties:
? Working with the team, develop and implement an employer engagement strategy to
link program participants to sustainable employment and/or further substantive
education in the community
? Connect employers to the program through engagement activities, such as guest
speaker opportunities; informational interviews; job fairs, developing job shadowing
and work experience opportunities for participants, workplace orientation tours and
interviews with participants for sustainable employment.
? Provide job search/career coaching; assist clients in identifying and achieving
employment goals, setting realistic career plans, and assisting program participants
in achieving employment and educational goals
? Work with the team to understand clients’ evolving needs in working towards
participant goals that align with their skills and experience.
? Working with the wider YWCA job development and marketing team to connect
participants with existing employer relationships and opportunities
? Meet with employers to create training plans and complete paperwork
? Participate in events / roundtables

? Assist clients with resumes, cover letters, interview preparation, and labour market
information and trend research, as well as one to one support
? Facilitate workshops as needed (e.g., networking, professional branding, alumni
engagement, job search topics).
? Attend weekly Case Conferencing with program staff to discuss client and employer
issues, and placement opportunities.
? Maintaining contact with program alumni to track results and provide job
sustainment supports and job coaching as part of a performance-based contract
? Working with YWCA Marketing, helping to maintain and update program’s social
media presence for marketing, outreach and employer recognition
? Maintain timely, accurate client records and confidentiality
? Part of developing and implementing a community outreach and marketing plan to
recruit program participants
? Special project contribution and other duties as required
Qualifications:
? Direct experience in employer engagement, coaching clients, connecting clients to
employment opportunities
? Effective relationship builder with a track record of establishing strong working
relationships; natural connector and networker
? Self-starter, ideas generator, results based, energetic and driven to ensure the success of
others
? Bachelor’s Degree; or 2-year Diploma in related discipline combined with relevant work
experience; or a combination of education and work experience.
? CCDP certification is an asset
? Passionate about working with older workers and the barriers that they may face in the
labour market
? Motivated to work independently and as part of a team to deliver effective services
? Experience working in and understanding an outcome-based program model is an asset
? Strong communication, writing and research skills
? Excellent computer skills (all Microsoft Applications)
? Demonstrated flexibility and positive attitude towards change
? Ability to lead participants in their career development, motivate jobseekers to embrace
change, think creatively about work search strategies.
? Demonstrated ability using social media for networking and professional branding
(LinkedIn, Twitter) and program marketing
? Ability to facilitate workshops to small and medium sized groups.
? Comfortable working as part of a small team to drive program outcomes
? Must be willing to travel in the Metro Vancouver region to meet with potential employers
and conduct outreach
? Proficient in Video-Conferencing technology (eg. Zoom, MS Teams, GoTo Meeting)
? A valid clear criminal record check (including working with vulnerable populations)
