Location:                            Robert Lee YMCA (Vancouver) or Tong Louie YMCA (Surrey)
 Currently working remotely until further notice

 

Hours of Work:                    17.5 hours per week

Nature and Scope:

The YMCA Youth Employment Bootcamp program is designed to support youth with barriers to employment to develop fundamental life, social and employability skills. This occurs through a series of workshops and training sessions followed by a practical work experience.

 

The Job Developer has the primary responsibility of working directly with employers, partners, and participants of the program to set up work placements and provide on-going follow-up supports. The position will involve outreach to the community in order to promote and recruit participants and establishing connections with businesses in order to develop job opportunities as participants move towards employment. This position may support and provide coverage with workshop facilitation. The work environment is very fast-paced, with a high volume of program participants.

 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Initiates and maintains on-going contacts with a variety of business and industry representatives and job placement/training agencies to promote programs for participant placement
  • Makes cold calls to potential employers
  • Maintains contact with employers during the participants' employment and reports results to appropriate staff
  • Coordinates and supports job placements for program participants
  • Locates jobs for participants who have successfully completed training programs
  • Provides labour market and community resource information
  • Researches internet, agencies, and other resources for job leads
  • Develops and executes creative outreach strategies to recruit program participants
  • Provides coverage for facilitation and delivery of employment workshops
  • Support multi-barrier youth with pre-employment supports such as housing, mental health, addictions, income supports, food security, hygiene & clothing and addressing other barriers to securing and sustaining employment
  • Monitors participant performance on the job and counsels participants when job performance is not satisfactory; works with participants to improve job performance and gain necessary job skills, or reviews other employment options
  • Prepares forms and reports related to placement activities
  • Tracks participant activity and progress data
  • Matches job skills with applicant qualifications
  • Travels across Vancouver and Lower Mainland for meetings

 

Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Degree or Certificate in a related discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • Established relationships within the local business community and proven track record in job placement recruitment
  • Experience working with youth or populations with multiple barriers
  • Strong facilitation skills with proven experience leading pre-employment, job search, career information workshops and presentations to a youth audience is an asset
  • Commitment to working in a socially inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to the diverse needs of members including visible and non-visible dimensions of diversity
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and harm reduction practices
  • Ability to be flexible, adaptable and multi-task in high demand environment
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Computer proficient – Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Office 365)
  • High degree of independence and initiative within a team environment
  • Emergency First Aid/CPR-C Certificate required, can be obtained with first 30 days of employment
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding start date
  • Access to a vehicle and a valid driver’s license
