Duration: April 30, 2018 – September 30, 2018 (renewal subject to funding availability)
Salary: $22.28 - $23.63 per hour
Location: Surrey
About the Position:
The Facilitator/Job Developer is responsible for facilitating program workshops and individual career counselling services to participants as well as assisting with securing employment opportunities including work placement for the participants in the program. The Facilitator/Job Developer is also responsible for follow up activities and ensuring the participants would reach the ultimate outcome of employment according to program’s timeline.
Reports to: Team Lead/Senior Facilitator
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in developing flyers, brochures and other methods to promote program and job placement activities
- Market the program to referring agencies, the wider community and the general public to ensure outcomes reflect our expected agreement deliverables
- Facilitate, and continually develop, a dynamic and engaging set of workshops for participants
- Collect labour market information for clients regarding job openings, entry and skills requirements, and other occupational information
- Provide job search services including group facilitation and individual employment counselling sessions
- Facilitate the production of professional resumes, cover letters, and mock video interviews for participants
- Develop job leads and market participants to potential employers; create connections and networking opportunities with different business sectors. Locate work placement and job openings for participants based on their individual skills and abilities
- Make cold calls to potential employers
- Explain the benefits and employment support services provided by program to employers including addressing employers’ special needs
- Conduct regular follow-up when applicants are placed in positions, monitor participant performance on the job and provide post-employment follow-up services to ensure participants are secure in employment
- Work with participants to improve job performance and gain necessary job skills
- Prepare documentation and reports related to program activities, track participant activities and progress data and updates on a regular basis
- Assist in developing curriculum
- Remain adaptive to changes in service delivery models, the labour market or participant trends
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the effectiveness of the office and its programming
- Assist in general operation of the office
- Ensure that all services are provided within the standards of service maintained by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. Employment Services and consistent with the Agency’s values and missions
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Bachelor Degree in a related discipline combined with at least two years of experience in both employment counselling and group facilitation, preferably with job seekers from diverse background. Equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered
- Experience in job development and client placement an asset
- Experience working in employment programs funded by the province an asset
- Experience in marketing and promotion (strategies, materials and distribution) an asset
- Extensive knowledge of labour market information, community resources and services relevant and appropriate to the target clients
- Knowledge of and ability to apply professional ethics and competencies as outlined in the Canadian Standards and Guidelines for Career Development Practitioners
- Strong interpersonal skills and a team player
- Excellent ability to communicate effectively with participants and the public including potential employers and other service providers
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to create, edit and proofread flawless resumes and cover letters
- Strong computer skills in MS Word, Excel, ACCESS and PowerPoint to create presentations, resume & cover letter preparation, assist clients to complete online applications, internet research and communication, and record keeping
- A passion for helping participants directly with their job search – support, leads, tips and tricks, as well as strategy
- A strong knowledge of local labour market information and methods to maintain current understanding of local influences and regional trends
- Competent to accomplish tasks with deadlines & handle stress and pressure
- Alignment with and ability to display organizational vision of a world of multicultural harmony and core values of caring, open and ethical behaviour inspired by respect, integrity, inclusion and innovation
- Certified to deliver Job Club Facilitation, Personality Dimensions, Career Crossroads, Making Sense of LMI, Starting-Points an asset
- An Employment Counselling or Career Practitioner Certification an asset
- Fluency in a second language an asset
