CLASSIFICATION DESCRIPTION

Nature & Scope of Work

The School of Tourism Management is looking for a practicum and work integrated learning (WIL) professional within our growing international student programs. Responsibilities include teaching career preparation courses, linking students to career development opportunities, marketing practicum programs to new and prospective students, placement of practicum students in appropriate positions in industry, site visits and evaluation of student’s practicum, as well as focusing on the development of additional WIL opportunities. This role works within a dedicated team of faculty and staff including the Convenors and Divisional Departmental Assistants for the Tourism Management Co-operative Education diploma and the International Tourism Management Programs.

 

The successful candidate is an integral part of the growth and development of students as they build skills and knowledge in Canadian work practices and should have experience working with and teaching international students.

 

Qualifications & Experience

Required:

  • Master’s in Tourism Management, Business or related field

 

  • Consideration will be given to a Bachelor degree in Tourism and/or Hospitality, or Business and/or Management in related fields with required and preferred relevant industry experiences and competencies

 

Preferred:

 

  • PhD in related fields

 

Industry Experiences and Competencies

Required:

  • Applied experience and comprehensive knowledge of the relevant tourism, hospitality, and/or outdoor recreation industry
  • Networking capacities to build communications between industry and the student body for practicum placements
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant industry certification, regulatory, and visa requirements for student placements
  • The capacity to integrate the practicum work experience and management practices within the context of tourism management studies

Preferred:

  • Comprehensive experience in student practicum and co-op placements, including generating job placement opportunities for students
  • Experience in marketing, database management and industry communications
  • Teaching and working with international students
