Supporting Neurodivergent Clients Transitioning from Post-secondary Education to the Workforce
Canadian post-secondary institutions are seeing increasing enrollment from neurodivergent students, yet graduation and employment outcomes for neurodivergent individuals lag in comparison to their neurotypical peers. This presentation presents the findings of the first national large-scale research study on the experiences of neurodivergent post-secondary students to understand the unique challenges neurodivergent post-secondary students are experiencing in their post-secondary education and when transitioning to the workforce. The session focuses on evidence-based strategies and considerations for career development professionals who support neurodivergent clients seeking to enter or re-enter the workforce and approaches for working with employers and managers to create more inclusive work environments for their neurodivergent clients.
About the Presenter:
Dr Jennifer Fane, Lead Research Associate at The Conference Board of Canada,
Dr Jennifer Fane is the Lead Research Associate in the Education and Skills knowledge area at the Conference Board of Canada. She holds an interdisciplinary PhD in Education, Public Health, and Social Policy, and has more than 18 years of experience as a teacher, teacher educator, and educational researcher in Canada and Australia. Prior to joining The Board, Jennifer was the Director of Education at the Learning Disabilities Society, responsible for educational and clinical service delivery and advocacy for over 500 neuro divergent learners ages three-to-adult. Jennifer is passionate about enhancing the inclusion of neuro divergent individuals across all aspects of Canadian society.
