About the session:

The foundation of career development as a profession built itself on social justice principles and  practices. As career educators, we are called upon to embed these practices into our work that  more equitably includes and supports marginalized students and clients. The late John Lewis  proclaimed, “it is time to get into good, necessary trouble.” Led by scholar-practitioners, Lisa  Higashi and Michael J. Stebleton, this interactive workshop will focus on exploring our historical  roots and guiding frameworks related to social justice causes. Furthermore, we will collectively  share practices, examples, and strategies that will advance our social justice work.

Lisa Higashi, M.Ed., is Associate Director, Undergraduate Careers and Student Engagement as well as a sessional instructor in Management Development as well as a sessional instructor in Management and Organizational Studies in the Beedie School of Business at  Simon Fraser University, Canada.

Michael J. Stebleton, PhD, is Associate Professor and Coordinator of Graduate Programs of Higher Education at the University of

Minnesota-Twin Cities, USA. His research and teaching interests focus on college student development.
